Okkulo
I’ve completed quite a few start-up branding jobs over the years. Often, the brand doesn’t even have a name, as in this case. This service is quite remarkable.
Any sport that relies on quick reaction times can have them sped up, thanks to
this system. It’s all to do with the manipulation of light levels. I use the analogy of
high-altitude training for athletes to explain the science. The athlete’s body recalibrates to work efficiently with less oxygen. When returning to ground level,
and normal oxygen levels, the athlete performs better.
As the system is to do with light and the processing of light through the eyes,
I called the system Okkulo. An invented word, based on the Latin for the eye, Occulus. The subject enters the Okkulo system and performs their sport in low light. The brain recalibrates to allow the person to perform in the conditions.
When returning to normal light levels the subject sees quicker.
Hence our positioning SEE QUICKER. PERFORM BETTER.
I wanted the brand to feel like a technology brand as much as a sports brand.
The colour palette of grey, black and white was chosen to reflect this.
The double ‘K’ of Okkulo made the perfect host for a light beam effect.
Okkulo was born and is now helping sports people all over the world get better.
